The Genesis of ProofRED

So.... how did ProofRED begin?

At the start of the year, I wanted to have other 'income streams', but I didn't really know what I wanted to do. I wanted to do other things too: read one book a month; increase my knowledge in areas that I was interested in... I wanted to take time to invest in myself.

Whilst reading my second book, I noticed that the author had thanked two individuals for proofreading his book in his acknowledgements. Imagine my horror when after reading 20 pages I found as many mistakes - grammar, punctuation, etc.

As I began making mental corrections, it was like a light bulb went on. A simple thought, but such a big step: I would start a proofreading company with my daughter.

Ideas raced through my head: I could contact the author of the book, tell him my findings, and offer to show him those 20 pages, but with amendments. If he agreed to it, we would re-do the book.

At the same time, we could contact individuals who were budding authors, students, charity organisations... anyone who needed our services.

We have always been strong in the literacy department. My background is secretarial/administrative, and my daughter and I have over 25 years of experience between us in proofreading. Whether it was social media, documents, notices, letters, or books, we've always been able to spot the mistakes - often times, they've been practically screaming out at us! Why not use these skills to help others, and at a competitive price?

And the rest, they say, is history.
